    Simon Rattle and Berlin Philharmonic

The Berlin Brahms Bombers victory tour came to a premature finish Tuesday night. The leader of the Berlin Philharmonic, Simon Rattle, received a hero’s excited welcome. The Second Symphony proved smashing, as had the first night from this inimitable orchestra’s two-evening visit to Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Chamber Music Festival Features Professional Performers

The Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival is entertaining audiences in Chittenden County, with most performances at the Elley-Long Music Center in Colchester’s Fort Ethan Allen. Other shows have taken place at the Firehouse Gallery on Church Street.

The festival is new this year, and features concerts as well as classes for students. Soovin Kim started the series. The Plattsburgh, N.Y., native got his start with the Vermont Youth Orchestra. He remembers, “Those were the years when I discovered the beauty and miracle of music.”

Many of Kim’s colleagues have ties to the region. One performer is the son of the late Nobel Prize winning author and Russian exile Alexander Solzhenitsyn, who settled in Cavendish.

Ignat Solzhenitsyn says, “Indeed every time I perform back home in Vermont it’s a special feeling, both in terms of meeting fellow Vermonters and seeing old friends and colleagues. It’s always a pleasure.”

The Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival runs through Sunday, August 30th. Click here for a full schedule.
